Born & raised in Minneapolis MN, Se’Anna always had a jones for good music regardless of genre. Having developed a strong passion for it as young child, she eventually began to tap into her own sense of creativity at the age of 14 when she started writing poetry and rhymes under the influence of a newfound love for classic Hip Hop.
Se’Anna credits the artistry of a varied array of musicians, such as Hip Hop legends like Yo-Yo, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, and A Tribe Called Quest—as well as jazz and R&B singers like Phyllis Hyman and Donny Hathaway—for inspiration.
To be surrounded by a wealth of sound that encompassed the resilience, perseverance and empowerment of her people created a secondary atmosphere from the reality of Se’Anna’s own childhood hardships that ultimately helped her cultivate a style of her own, aspiring to do the same.
While continuing to navigate her musical journey in adulthood, Se’Anna has also spent the past nine years doing restorative work within government agencies, community-based organizations and public schools to better serve underserved historically excluded and marginalized demographics.
Confident in her calling to speak more life, truth and light in the world, Se’Anna is committed to using all of her creative gift for communal restoration while standing firmly on one critical question:
What is filling our atmosphere and how does it build us up?
