Sound as a Driver
“Sound is a way to extend the territory you can affect. People can walk into you way before they can get close to your body.”
Dr. Bernice Johnson Raegon (“The Songs Are Free”, 1991)
Communal sound is a collective declaration of our presence and proclamation of what is real. To anyone coming in: As long as you are making noise, they cannot change this atmosphere because the sound is maintaining this territory.
As a firm believer that what we each put into the world holds unique significance, Se’Anna writes and tells stories inspired by her own personal reflection and creative interpolation of real experiences (such as struggles with mental health, self-discovery, self-love, confliction and dissonance, healing from hurt, self-preservation, and the weight of social issues garnered from being black and a woman in the United States of America).
Using her music as a means to foster space for human connectivity—whether it be with self or others—she continues to raise the question for any willing listener:
What is filling our atmosphere and how does it build us up?
